Pixel Watch 2: Codenames Eos & Aurora and Design Speculations Emerge

Possible Launch of Pixel Watch 2 on the Horizon

The tech world is buzzing with rumors about Google’s second-generation wearable, the Pixel Watch 2. With Google’s first Pixel Watch launched in October last year, speculations have been mounting about whether Google would release a successor this year, in line with the launch of the Pixel 8 series. These conjectures seem to be gaining traction as fresh evidence suggests the possible existence and design of the much-anticipated Pixel Watch 2.

Codename “Eos” and “Aurora”: Unveiling the Pixel Watch 2

New insights into the Google Pixel Watch 2 have emerged from an APK teardown of the Google app. The watch is reportedly codenamed “Eos,” joining the previously leaked codename “Aurora”. Both names pay homage to the goddess of dawn in Greek and Roman mythology, respectively. It is conjectured that one of these codenames denotes the Wi-Fi only model of the Google Pixel Watch, while the other signifies the LTE compatible variant, following a similar trend from the previous Pixel Watch launch.

Speculations Surrounding the Design of Pixel Watch 2

The design of the Pixel Watch 2 is under speculation as well. Some sources have drawn conclusions from the help guides associated with “Eos” in the Google app, which features imagery identical to the original Pixel Watch. This similarity in visual representation could be explained in two ways. One theory is that Google is using the existing animations temporarily as placeholders until updated ones are prepared.

An alternative theory proposes that Google might not be planning to change the look of the Pixel Watch 2 substantially. This speculation aligns with Google’s recent launch of metal bands for the Pixel Watch, which are priced at $200 each. If the Pixel Watch 2 were to undergo a major design overhaul, the compatibility of these new bands could be in question. Hence, the Pixel Watch 2 might retain a design similar to its predecessor, or at least be compatible with the newly launched watch bands.

Potential Improvements in the Pixel Watch 2

Since the Pixel Watch’s launch, Google has been continually enhancing its features through software updates. The most recent June 2023 Feature Drop added SpO2 measurements for blood oxygen analysis. While these updates are commendable, it’s the design aspect of the Pixel Watch 2 that’s now under the spotlight. Google might have the opportunity to increase the body size, possibly leaving room for a larger battery. Coupled with the rumored Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chip, the Pixel Watch 2 could bring significant improvements in battery life.

Expectations from Pixel Watch 2

The Pixel Watch 2, with its speculated design and hardware enhancements, has generated considerable anticipation among Google’s consumer base. Whether it will carry forward the compact and premium look of the original Pixel Watch, or surprise fans with a design revamp, only time will tell. For now, the Pixel Watch 2 continues to be an eagerly awaited addition to the wearable tech market.
