Sony Rumored to be Developing a Handheld Gaming Device

Rumors are circulating that Sony may be working on a new handheld gaming device, which could be a PS Vita 2, a cloud-streaming handheld, or a device focused on PS5 Remote Play.

Speculation on Sony Handheld Gaming Device

Recent reports suggest that Sony could be secretly working on a new handheld gaming device, possibly as a successor to the PlayStation Vita, or as part of their INZONE gaming lineup. Another possibility is a device designed for cloud-streaming or PS5 Remote Play. The release date for this hardware is rumored to be before the PS5 Pro console.

Details on the Rumored Device

According to Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb, the unreported Sony hardware could be a cloud-streaming handheld, while other sources suggest it could be designed around the PS5’s Remote Play feature with support for a 1080p resolution at up to 60 frames-per-second. Codenamed the “Q Lite,” the device is said to have adaptive triggers for haptic feedback and other standard handheld features.

Upcoming Announcements

None of these rumors have been confirmed by Sony, but a rumored PlayStation Showcase before the Summer Game Fest in June might provide an opportunity for the company to reveal its plans. The device is expected to require a constant, reliable internet connection for cloud streaming or remote play capabilities.
