Microsoft’s Surface Hub 2S: Embracing Teams Rooms and Display Rotation in the Latest Update

Surface Hub 2S: Awaiting Dynamic Rotation

Microsoft’s Surface Hub 2S has captured the interest of consumers since its unveiling in 2018 as a revolutionary giant touchscreen whiteboard PC. The promise of the Dynamic Rotation feature and the ability to link multiple displays side-by-side, initially planned for a separate product – the Surface Hub 2X, was eagerly anticipated by users. However, the Surface Hub 2X was indefinitely delayed, and Microsoft shifted focus to updates on the current Surface Hub 2S.

Sources indicate that Microsoft is working on an exciting cartridge update codenamed “Upward.” This module is expected to enhance the Surface Hub 2S’s CPU with an 11th Gen Intel processor and finally deliver the much-awaited Dynamic Rotation capability. The implementation of this feature will enable the Surface Hub 2S to rotate from horizontal to vertical positions, opening up new avenues for user interaction.

Microsoft Teams Rooms Integration

In a stride towards enhancing workplace collaboration, Microsoft plans to incorporate the Teams Rooms experience into the Surface Hub 2S. Introduced as a replacement for Skype Rooms in 2019, Teams Rooms was designed to create a more immersive experience for users collaborating from different locations.

The Updated Surface Hub 2S: Fusing Innovation and Functionality

Later this year, Microsoft plans to release an updated version of the Surface Hub 2S, featuring Teams Rooms functionality pre-installed. This updated model is anticipated to reach feature parity with Teams Rooms on Windows PCs, including the latest features such as Front Row and chat. The device will maintain its support for hybrid meeting capabilities, which includes multi-person Whiteboard usage.

For the current Surface Hub 2S users, Microsoft is likely to offer cartridge updates. In contrast, new customers will have the opportunity to purchase the fully updated version. It’s important to note that the current Surface Hub 2S model won’t support the Teams Rooms experience, with support for these devices set to end on October 14, 2025.

The Future of Surface Hub 2S

The imminent updates and new features slated for the Surface Hub 2S are set to revolutionize collaborative workspaces. As we await these exciting updates, it is clear that the Surface Hub 2S is ready to solidify its position as a leading touchscreen whiteboard PC, shaping the future of collaborative work.
