iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max Rumored to Feature Customizable Solid-State Buttons

According to leaks, the iPhone 15 series will be the first generation of iPhones to replace traditional physical buttons with solid-state side-mounted controls. The new design is expected to include three types of buttons a power button, a volume rocker, and an Action Button.

Action Button Functionality

The Action Button concept may be familiar to Apple Watch Ultra owners, who can remap the button to perform various functions. However, the iPhone version is rumored to offer an even broader range of customization options, such as jumping directly to system or UI targets, switching cameras, taking screenshots, or toggling silent mode on and off.

Customizable Solid-State Buttons and Haptic Feedback

Reports suggest that the solid-state buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will be customizable, allowing users to adjust the touch sensitivity for use with gloves or cases. The new design will use Apple’s Taptic Engine, a small motor that produces vibrations to provide haptic feedback when users press the button.

Replacing the Ring/Silent Switch with an Action Button

Apple is also rumored to replace the Ring/Silent switch with a common Action Button, potentially functioning similarly to the Apple Watch Ultra. This button may offer users the option to assign various system functions for added convenience.

iPhone 15 Series Launch Expectations

The iPhone 15 series is anticipated to launch in September, with an official announcement likely as the event draws closer. Other rumored features include thinner bezels, USB Type C ports, and a Dynamic Island feature on all iPhone 15 models.
