Samsung Set to Launch Second-Gen Galaxy SmartTag Alongside New Foldables and Wearables

Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag, a small Bluetooth-enabled device that assists users in locating and tracking their personal belongings, is reportedly getting an upgrade. The Korean tech giant plans to launch a second-gen version of the Galaxy SmartTag in the latter half of this year, possibly alongside new foldables and wearables.

Galaxy SmartTag Key Features

Launched in January 2021, the Galaxy SmartTag and Galaxy SmartTag+ work with Samsung’s SmartThings IoT platform, allowing users to find lost items through a crowd-sourced network. The SmartTags can be tracked using the SmartThings Find app on Samsung Galaxy smartphones. While the Galaxy SmartTag is Bluetooth-powered, the SmartTag+ also supports Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology for more precise location tracking.

Additionally, the SmartTags feature a physical button that can help users locate misplaced smartphones or tablets and can be programmed to control IoT and smart home devices.

Anticipated Second-Gen Galaxy SmartTag Improvements

Although details are scarce, sources cited by SamMobile suggest that Samsung’s second-gen Galaxy SmartTag may offer a better wireless range, louder beeper volume, and enhanced security measures to prevent misuse or unauthorized tracking. It remains unclear if Samsung will release two models, as it did with the original Galaxy SmartTag series.

Launch Timeline and Event Lineup

As Samsung advances in its development of the second-gen Galaxy SmartTag, more information is expected to emerge in the coming months. The company aims to launch the new SmartTag between July and September 2023, potentially coinciding with the release of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 foldables, the Galaxy Watch 6 series.
