Apple AirTag Helps US Investigators Track Down Armored Truck Robbery Suspects

Apple AirTag Leads US Authorities to Armored Truck Robbery Suspects

US investigators tracked down two suspects accused of robbing an armored truck and stealing over $1 million in cash, thanks to a hidden Apple AirTag within one of the stolen bags. The device helped authorities locate the suspects and recover a significant amount of the stolen money.

Robbery Details and AirTag’s Role

The robbery occurred outside a Jewel-Osco grocery store in Homewood, Illinois, when the suspects allegedly pistol-whipped a Brink’s truck driver and stole seven plastic bins containing roughly $100,000 each, along with ten deposit bags holding approximately $50,000 each. An Apple AirTag hidden in one of the bags enabled US law enforcement to track down the suspects’ location at a home in Calumet Park.

Arrests and Recovered Items

Following a warranted search of the property, US police arrested Darrell Singleton, 18, and Devonte Davis, 26. Officers recovered hundreds of thousands of dollars, two guns, the AirTag tracking device, a Brink’s deposit slip, Brink’s keys and documentation, and clothing matching the description of the suspects during the robbery. Singleton reportedly confessed to the crime, and both suspects are now facing charges for armed robbery.
