Samsung’s Exynos 2400 Chip: A 10-Core CPU Monster with 2x Graphics Power

Samsung is rumored to reintroduce Exynos chips in its upcoming Galaxy S24 phones, specifically the Exynos 2400 processor. This chip is expected to be featured in Galaxy S24 series phones released in Africa, Europe, and parts of Asia, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 may be used in other regions. The specifications of the Exynos 2400 processor have now been leaked, revealing a 10-core CPU and twice the GPU performance compared to its predecessor, the Exynos 2200.

Exynos 2400 Specifications: A 10-Core CPU Powerhouse

Built using an improved version of Samsung Foundry’s 4nm fabrication process, the Exynos 2400 is designed to be a performance beast. It features a 10-core CPU configuration, including one Cortex-X4 CPU core clocked at 3.1GHz, two Cortex-A720 CPU cores at 2.9GHz, three Cortex-A720 CPU cores at 2.6GHz, and four Cortex-A520 CPU cores at 1.8GHz.

In comparison, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 features an octa-core CPU with fewer Cortex-A520 CPU cores. The Exynos 2400 is also said to be compatible only with 64-bit apps, ruling out the possibility of running older 32-bit applications.

Graphics Performance: 2x GPU Power

The Exynos 2400 is rumored to house the Xclipse 940 GPU, utilizing twice the GPU cores compared to the Xclipse 920 GPU in the Exynos 2200. With six WGPs (workgroup processors) instead of three, the Exynos 2400’s GPU would have 12 GPU cores, theoretically doubling the graphics performance compared to the Exynos 2200.

This enhancement should bring the Exynos 2400 to the level of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in terms of graphics performance. However, the exact clock speeds of these RDNA2 cores are still unknown, so the performance could be even higher.

Enhanced Connectivity and AI Computing

The Exynos 2400 is expected to offer improved AI computing performance and comes equipped with the Exynos 5300 modem, providing up to 10Gbps maximum downlink speeds on a 5G network. The modem supports both NSA and SA 5G networks and is compatible with mmWave and sub-6GHz networks.

An exciting feature of the Exynos 2400 is its compatibility with two-way satellite connectivity, allowing for emergency calling and messaging when no cellular network is available. Other expected connectivity features include Wi-Fi 6E/Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, NFS, and USB 3.2 Type-C.

Camera and Storage Capabilities

The Exynos 2400 is rumored to be compatible with UFS 4.0 storage and LPDDR5X RAM, providing a bandwidth of 8.5Gbps. Its built-in ISP (Image Signal Processor) can reportedly handle camera sensors up to 320MP and support 8K 60fps videos, showcasing its potential for high-end photography and videography.

Conclusion

Samsung’s Exynos 2400 chip is shaping up to be a significant advancement in mobile processing technology. With a 10-core CPU configuration, 2x GPU performance, enhanced connectivity, and support for cutting-edge camera capabilities, it promises to be a powerhouse for the next generation of smartphones.

The integration of this chip into the Galaxy S24 series could mark a new era for Samsung’s devices, offering users unprecedented performance and features. As the launch date approaches, the tech community eagerly awaits the official unveiling of the Exynos 2400 and its potential impact on the mobile industry.
