Office 2016 and 2019 Risk Connectivity Issues with Microsoft 365

Office 2016 and 2019 users may face connectivity issues with Microsoft 365 services as these versions are no longer officially supported. This lack of support could result in compatibility problems and performance issues with Microsoft 365 services.

Upcoming 2023 Milestone

Microsoft warns organizations using Office 2016 and 2019 of an October 10, 2023 deadline. To maintain seamless Microsoft 365 connections, users should switch to subscription-based Microsoft 365 Apps. Failure to upgrade may lead to unresolved issues.

Microsoft 365 Apps Migration Considerations

When moving to Microsoft 365 Apps, users should adopt OneDrive cloud storage for files and migrate shares to SharePoint Online. Also, organizations are advised not to assign home drives in on-premises Active Directory Domain Services.

Unsupported Migration Methods

Microsoft doesn’t support Configuration Manager for migrating Office 2016 or Office 2019 to Microsoft 365 Apps. Instead, Group Policy or Intune CSP (configuration service providers) are recommended for migrations to Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise.
