Astrophotography Update Arrives for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy S21

Astrophotography Comes to Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy S21

Samsung has rolled out a significant software update to the Expert RAW camera app for its Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy S21 smartphones, unlocking the coveted astrophotography mode. Previously available only on the Galaxy S22 and S23 series, the mode enables users to capture breathtaking images of the night sky.

Camera Enhancements and Device Compatibility

The Expert RAW camera app update (version 2.0.09.1) empowers users to take long-duration, low-light exposures, utilizing AI to improve picture quality and identify major star constellations. Samsung aims to extend this feature to other devices, such as the Galaxy Fold 3, Galaxy Fold 2, and Galaxy S20 series. Users can access the update via the Galaxy Store, as long as their devices have the April 2023 security patch installed.

Utilizing the Astrophotography Mode

To enable the astrophotography mode, users should activate the Special photo options within Expert RAW settings. The mode supports exposures lasting up to 10 minutes and includes a Sky guide mode, which superimposes the positions of stars and constellations onto the viewfinder. To ensure stability during extended exposures, users can employ a tripod or take advantage of the Galaxy Z Fold 4’s built-in Flex mode.
