iPadOS 17 Rumored to Drop Support for Older iPad Models

iPadOS 17 May Exclude Support for Some Older iPad Models

According to French tech website iPhoneSoft, iPadOS 17 is expected to drop support for the first-generation 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro, as well as the fifth-generation iPad. This information corroborates earlier reports from a source with a proven track record for software update predictions.

Expected Compatibility with iPadOS 17

If these claims hold true, the following devices will be compatible with iPadOS 17 upon its release this fall:

  • iPad Pro (2017 and later)
  • iPad Air (third generation and later)
  • iPad (sixth generation and later)
  • iPad mini (fifth generation and later)

It’s important to note that compatibility doesn’t guarantee full support for all features in the new software.

WWDC23 Announcements and Release Timeline

Apple is expected to announce iPadOS 17 at its WWDC23 keynote on June 5, followed by a months-long beta program. The public release is likely to occur around September. In addition to iPadOS 17, Apple will also showcase updates for iPhone, Apple Watch, Mac, and Apple TV. The Reality Pro headset and a 15-inch MacBook Air are also anticipated at the event.
