Apple Rumored to Integrate Siri UI into Dynamic Island with iOS 17

Apple May Integrate Siri UI into Dynamic Island in Upcoming iOS 17

Apple is reportedly considering integrating Siri’s on-screen interface into the Dynamic Island on newer iPhones with the release of iOS 17. The Dynamic Island, a pill-shaped interface that first appeared on the iPhone 14 Pro, has been garnering attention as it replaced the traditional notch on the device. Integrating Siri into this feature could potentially allow onscreen content to remain fully visible while interacting with the virtual assistant, offering a more seamless user experience.

Siri’s Current Interface and Potential Changes

Currently, when users invoke Siri either by pressing a button or using the “Hey Siri” command, an animated sphere appears at the bottom of the screen. Any details relevant to the user’s request are displayed at either the top or bottom of the screen in the form of a card, with the background content dimmed.

In iOS 14, Apple introduced a more compact Siri interface that doesn’t take up the entire screen. This change was aimed at improving user experience by allowing them to continue interacting with other onscreen content while using Siri. The rumored integration of Siri UI into the Dynamic Island would be a further step in this direction, enabling users to have an even more unobstructed view of their screen while using the virtual assistant.

Expanding Dynamic Island and Testing New Siri UI

Apple is expected to expand the Dynamic Island feature to all iPhone 15 models this year, both Pro and non-Pro versions. With this expansion, it’s possible that the company is testing the new Siri UI with the Dynamic Island to determine whether it’s a viable and user-friendly implementation. However, it’s still unclear whether Apple will ultimately decide to go ahead with this version of Siri, as they may choose to keep the current state if the new UI doesn’t meet certain standards.

Upcoming WWDC 2023 and Further Developments

More information on iOS 17, including the possible integration of Siri UI into the Dynamic Island, may be revealed during the upcoming Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in June 2023. Apple’s annual developer event is the usual venue for announcing new major iOS updates, as well as other product developments. In addition to iOS 17, the WWDC 2023 event could also feature announcements regarding the Apple AR/VR headset, the MacBook Air 15-inch, and other software improvements like dynamic home screen widgets, updates to Control Center, Apple Health, and CarKey.
