Samsung Galaxy S23 Series Found to Have Slower Wireless Charging Than S22 Series

Recent tests conducted by PhoneArena reveal that Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series experiences slower wireless charging speeds compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S22 series. The tests compared wireless charging times for all three models of the S23 series—the base, Plus, and Ultra—against their S22 counterparts. The results showed that the new Galaxy S23 models charged significantly slower than the previous generation.

Galaxy S23 Ultra Experiences Major Decline in Charging Speed

The most notable difference was found in the flagship Galaxy S23 Ultra model. Despite having the same 5000 mAh battery capacity and 15 W wireless charging capability as the S22 Ultra, the S23 Ultra took 2 hours and 37 minutes to fully charge wirelessly, a 33% increase in charging time compared to the 1 hour and 58 minutes needed for the S22 Ultra.

The base and Plus models of the S23 series also experienced longer charging times; however, these models have increased battery capacities compared to their S22 counterparts, which could account for the additional time needed for charging.

Possible Reasons for Slower Charging Speeds

One potential reason for the slower charging speeds observed in the S23 series could be concerns regarding heat dissipation and battery degradation. However, quick charging technologies have been on the market for several years and have not led to widespread issues with battery longevity. Companies have been implementing heat management solutions to ensure that quick charging does not negatively impact battery life.

Samsung’s 15 W wireless charging is not the fastest option available on the market, with some commercial wireless chargers offering speeds of up to 50 W. Samsung, along with Apple and Google, have yet to adopt the state-of-the-art charging technology commonly found in devices manufactured by Chinese companies. The availability of faster charging options can significantly change how users interact with their devices, as rapid top-ups can eliminate the need to charge devices overnight.

As it stands, it remains unclear why Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series experiences slower wireless charging times compared to the previous generation. However, this difference in charging speed could impact users’ experience with the devices, especially for those who rely heavily on wireless charging capabilities.
