Google Announces End-of-Life for Nest Secure, Offers Transition Options to Customers

Google to Discontinue Support for Nest Secure

Google has announced the end-of-life date for its Nest Secure products, which will no longer be supported by the Nest app after April 8th, 2024. The discontinuation of support for Nest Secure could signal the upcoming arrival of Google’s new Home app, offering a more customizable user experience.

Nest Secure and ADT Partnership

In 2020, Google announced a long-term strategic partnership between Google and ADT, a leading US security and home automation provider. The goal of this partnership was to develop better solutions for greater customer peace of mind and choice, including offering users the option to add new types of sensors and professional monitoring. With this in mind, Google believes that the partnership with ADT creates a more helpful smart home security experience to help people connect and protect what matters most, both now and in the future.

Transition Offers for Nest Secure Users

To help ease the transition for Nest Secure users, Google is offering an exclusive deal for a Self Setup System from ADT on them (up to a $485 value) or $200 to use on the Google Store. Eligible Nest Secure users will receive an email with instructions on how to redeem this offer with a unique coupon code.

Works with Nest API Discontinuation

In addition to the Nest Secure end-of-life announcement, Google has also shared that the Works With Nest API system, which allows third-party integrations with otherwise incompatible smart home accessories, will stop working after September 29th. Google is directing customers to Assistant-based routines in the Google Home app as a replacement for the lost functionality. The company plans to launch a script editor “in the coming months” to make up for other lost features and is working closely with partners to provide replacement integrations.

Google’s Commitment to Customers

Google acknowledges the inconvenience these transitions may cause but is committed to helping customers and minimizing disruptions. The company aims to build and support devices and services that work well together and are available when needed. By offering upgrades and support, Google hopes to make the transition as seamless as possible for affected Nest Secure users.
