Samsung Warns Galaxy S23 Owners Against Using Non-Official Accessories

Samsung’s Warning to Galaxy S23 Users

Samsung has issued a warning to Galaxy S23 series owners against using non-official or third-party accessories, as they could potentially damage the devices or degrade their performance. The company’s primary concern is the impact these accessories might have on the cameras, with possible microphone obstruction also mentioned.

Potential Issues Caused by Non-Official Accessories

In a Samsung Community forum post, the company outlined four main concerns regarding the use of non-official accessories

  1. Camera Lens Protector Damage Samsung warns that non-official camera lens protectors might cause scratches on the camera ring during removal, leading to users mistakenly thinking their camera lens is damaged.
  2. Moisture and Foreign Object Accumulation The use of non-official lens protectors or cases that cover the camera lenses could trap moisture or foreign objects, potentially causing water damage or impacting photo and video quality.
  3. Camera Performance Degradation Non-official lens protectors and cases covering the camera lenses may result in lower image quality and focusing issues due to the additional layer of glass.
  4. Microphone and Sound Transmission Problems Samsung highlights that non-Samsung-certified cases might cover the microphone located at the bottom of the topmost rear-facing camera on the Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra, leading to reduced call quality and audio/video recording quality.

Samsung’s Recommendation for Safe Use

While Samsung has not provided a list of Samsung-certified accessories, the company recommends using genuine or Samsung-certified accessories for the safe use of Galaxy S23 series devices. To avoid unwanted issues, users should consider purchasing accessories from reputable brands and checking reviews before making a purchase.
