Microsoft Introduces Xbox Remix Special Edition Controller Made of Recycled Materials

Microsoft’s Commitment to Sustainability in Gaming

Microsoft has announced the launch of the Remix Special Edition Xbox wireless controller, showcasing their dedication to environmental responsibility and providing gamers with a sustainable alternative in gaming accessories. This innovative controller features recycled plastics, a third of which are sourced from reclaimed items such as automotive headlight covers, plastic water jugs, CDs, and previous-generation Xbox One controllers.

Design and Features of the Remix Special Edition Controller

The eco-friendly Remix Special Edition controller boasts a two-tone green color scheme with textured grips that resemble a wood-like texture for added grip. Due to the nature of the recycled materials used, the controller’s color finish may be uneven, giving each individual controller a unique appearance. The controller comes bundled with a rechargeable battery that offers up to 30 hours of playtime and a USB-C cable for wired gaming and charging, further enhancing the convenience factor and reducing waste generated from non-rechargeable AA batteries.

Compatibility and Functionality

The Remix Special Edition controller maintains the standard functionality and compatibility with the usual Xbox accessories, while also being compatible with a wide range of devices, including Xbox Series X/S, Windows 10/11, Android, and iOS. This makes it a versatile choice for gamers who play on multiple platforms.

Inspiration and Release Date

Microsoft’s marketing manager for Xbox Accessories, Daniel Ruiz, shares the inspiration behind the Remix Special Edition controller’s design, stating that the team drew ideas from natural landscapes and the physical world. The vibrant green Xbox button, D-pad, and front case color are inspired by lichen found in the Pacific Northwest Forest, while the bumpers, triggers, and side grip areas feature a topographic texture pattern that is reminiscent of the earth’s dynamic landscape.

The Xbox Remix Special Edition wireless controller is available for pre-order via the Xbox store at a price of £74.99. It is scheduled for release on April 18, just in time for Earth Day on April 22.
