Apple Announces WWDC 2023 Dates, Anticipation Builds for Mixed-Reality Headset

Apple has officially confirmed that its Worldwide Developer’s Conference (WWDC) 2023 will take place from June 5 to June 9. Similar to recent Apple events, WWDC23 will be held online.

WWDC 2023 and Special In-Person Event

In addition to the online conference, Apple announced a “special all-day experience” for developers and winners of the Swift Student Challenge. This in-person event will be held at Apple Park, where attendees can watch videos of the keynote and State of the Union presentations.

Anticipated Announcements

WWDC is Apple’s annual platform for revealing major software updates for iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches. This year, the event is expected to include announcements about iOS 17, iPad OS 17, macOS 14, and watchOS 10. The most eagerly awaited announcement, however, is a rumored mixed-reality headset, reportedly called Reality Pro.

Rumors of Reality Pro

Rumors surrounding Apple’s XR headset have been circulating for a while, with the project having faced several delays due to technical and supply chain challenges. However, Apple insiders such as Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman believe that WWDC23 may be the event where the Reality Pro takes the spotlight.

The Reality Pro is rumored to be a high-end device, priced at over $3,000, featuring more than 10 cameras, an M2 chip, and advanced hand and eye-tracking capabilities for performing tasks without handsets. It’s likely that Apple will introduce the headset’s operating system, reportedly called xrOS, at WWDC23.
