Opera Integrates AI-Powered Chatbots into Desktop Browsers for Enhanced Web Experience

Opera is joining the AI chatbot revolution by integrating ChatGPT and ChatSonic-powered chatbots into its desktop browsers, Opera and Opera GX. Following Microsoft’s recent incorporation of GPT-4 chatbots in its Edge browser, Opera aims to enhance the browsing experience for its users with these AI-driven tools.

AI Chatbots Make Their Way to Opera Browsers

Following Microsoft’s integration of GPT-4-powered chatbots in its Edge browser, Opera has now introduced generative AI chatbots powered by ChatGPT and ChatSonic in its desktop browsers, Opera and Opera GX. The company has made these new tools available in early access across all desktop platforms.

Opera is also launching a feature that allows users to generate AI prompts by either highlighting text on a website or manually typing it in. These chatbots can summarize articles or webpages, create social media posts, or facilitate ideation through prompts. To use this feature, users must activate “AI prompts” through the settings menu.

Seamless Integration and Enhanced Functionality

The Chinese consortium-owned company is integrating the chatbots into its browsers’ sidebar. While ChatGPT works with text, Opera states that ChatSonic’s bot, powered by GPT-4, also enables users to generate images from text inputs.

“AI-generated content is a game-changer for web browsing. Our goal is to use these technologies to give our users new browsing superpowers – reimagining how they learn, create, and research. Opera is actively expanding its AI program into AIGC for browser, news, and gaming products through its own solutions and new and existing partnerships,” said Joanna Czajka, Opera’s Product Director.

Opera plans to announce more AI-powered features in the future, which will run on its GPT-based model.

Generative AI in Other Browsers

With the increasing popularity of generative AI, more browsers may consider integrating AI-powered tools. Brave, for instance, has already introduced summarization features in its search engine and is experimenting with AI-focused features for its browser.
